Lowering top caps for mk2 86c polo

Featured Replies

Hello Iv had some springs made to lower my 1985 polo saloon 100mm ish but it’s still not low enough at the front. Would lowering top caps from the 6n fit my car??

Probably a very novice question. I haven't had my struts/suspension out for years so can't quite remember the details. Are the 6n lowering top mounts that are available here ( https://vwpartsinternational.com/shop/suspension/vw-polo-6n-6n1-front-lowering-top-mount-caps-10-15mm-lower-new-quality-parts/ ) a direct replacement for the standard ones like this ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Polo-Classic-86C-80-1985-1994-Vetech-Front-Strut-Top-Mount-Mounting/371727904937?hash=item568cb5b0a9:g:VC4AAOSwtnpXiypX )?

So I was looking at suspension parts available on vwheritage and think I get this, can anyone confirm? If 6n top mount caps fit are they only a replacement for the metal "dish" (limit stop) that can be seen from inside the engine bay.

So if I bought 6n lowering top mount caps I'd still use standard top strut mounts, and bump stops wouldn't I?

dont think they work ..was a trend a while back to fit these , they will bolt and close up the gap but they bind against the turret so aint right

OK, thanks. That's a bit of a shame, I literally only wanted to go fractionally lower at the front end. This seemed like it would be a sensibly priced way of doing it, since the minimum adjustment from lowering springs/kit seems to be 40mm and 8 to 10 times the cost.

i know its frowned upon for for a small adjustment id cut a bit off the spring

I'll be honest I've never liked the idea of cutting. I'll just leave it alone for now I guess. Concentrate on my engine project.

I bought some. They didnt look the same so i showed my local mechanic he said they wont fit also

Use lower profile tyres?

I've used 165/60/r13 on the front 5.5J in summer. Accelerates a bit faster. Speedo overreads. Odometer shows more miles. Fuel consumption appears better but is not.

Found they matched the long 8P gearbox 5th to the cam on motorway journeys better on my weird engine.

Ovation VI-682 or Achilles 122 or Nankang AS-1 as the Falken Ziex-502 is no more.

(or even antiquely old stock Goodyear Eagle F1?)
