Would a car fail a MOT if short lengths of brake hoses were used directly screwed in the master cylinder to allow it to be removed from the servo and moved out of the way temporarily so the engine can be removed without the need to connect the brake pipes and bleed the brake system again ?

The only thing I could think of would be to make sure the pipes can't move and touch any moving component in the bay, other than that I can't see why they would have a problem with that idea ? but maybe pop down to your testing station and ask them ?

I think the same. After all there are flexible lines to the wheels and they are in a more hazardous and active environment. The testing station may want the pipe end of the hose fixed but the master cylinder will be fixed. All I have to do now is find some suitable hoses that would seal well into the master cylinder where a double flare pipe would normally go.

As you say, the pipe end of the hoses needs to be fixed, so that end of the hoses needs to have a nut on it to retain the bracket(s) that you will need to make up.
