been using bilt hamber rust remover gel and works great for small parts.

 

but now want to clean rust off brake parts including brake shield covers which are pretty big.

 

any cheaper of doing this as it will prob use up a full bottle of the bilt and could get expensive.

 

anyone used liquid method if there is any?

I have used same stuff it works great . Have you tried brushing it on then wrapping the item in cling film ? This stops it drying out so quick therefore removing  more rust ..

Are you taking shields off to work on them?

I have used Hammerite Kurust and Granville Rust Convertor which are fluid. 

They turn the rust into black Iron phosphate.

So not as etching clean as the BH jelly. Then paint over with Elastomastic or POR15 to make smooth.

 

I found replacement dustshields for less than a tub of Bilt-Hamber.

Still not managed to remove one side though, rusted nuts in awkward position.

 

 

 

 

degrease them ...bucket of warm water and some citric acid powder , will clean them a treat and under a fiver
