Hello, a big shot in the dark here. I have a VW Polo 6n2 1.4 8v and having some issues with my ABS, so the stories goes I had my front passenger side wheel bearing replaced and the mechanic in question also found it upon himself to change a ‘bad looking ABS sensor’ (I had 0 issues with ABS prior to this). Once having the car handed back from the mechanic as soon as I drove off down the street when coming to stop and applying my breaks the pedal would now viberate, followed by what seems a loud grinding noise until the car became stationary. So I took it back for him to say it needed to ‘bed in’ (I knew this was cow patt) so he said changing the right one would balance it out (cow patt I know) so the right one got changed to no previal. Now he’s refusing to any work on thr issue (obviously) now I had both wheels off and looking for issues, I found a bent abs ring (left side) (bent back into shape best I could). Now at my whitts end and MOT looming. If I take out the ABS fuse it no longer does so I imagine that rules out any discs and pads issues (which he also suggested) so it can only be the abs issue, but with both sensors now changed i’m unsure. Any help greatly appreciated

You have probably had this problem sorted by now, but if you were not having the problem prior to the wheel bearing work and providing that now work was carried out on any other wheel, it is saying  to me that the ABS unit is now receiving a signal from that N/S wheel.

Have you tried unplugging the ABS sensor and checking the condition of the plug/socket?

A couple of thoughts come to mind: (1) That new sensor may be faulty. (2) Is it possible that the ABS ring that you bent back into shape, is still not running true and the sensor is not able to 'count the revs'?

 

Does the garage who did this work have a website on which you may care to leave your thoughts? If they belong to any trade association, a word with them might at least prevent this sort of thing happening to other people.
