P0401. The only one i hqve reoccuring now.

I think the only option is to get it connected too VCDS and see what that shows up , with the live measuring blocks you should be able to see the signal from the EGR and it will give you the parameters that it should be within

Know of any decent place near cardiff

New EGR valve?

Already been replaced 😞 & all pipework cleaned out

Shame, missed that in all the posts.

So maybe the EGR controller is out of spec which VCDS should reveal as you suggested.

Perhaps it's getting extra free oxygen sometimes (vac leak - like at the hard plastic brake servo pipe when engine rocks), not inert recirculated exhaust gas flow is insufficient.

Thanks for all your replies.

Would the free version of vcds do this or is it garage visit?

Also as far as vac leak. Ill check it tomorrow. Which pipe am i looking for?

The "lite" version will not run the basic settings required, http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Functions you need a fully registered version.

I thought you had already checked all the vacuum pipes including the big vacuum pipe going to the brake servo ?

Have a look on https://www.briskoda.net/forums/  they have a register of people with VCDS, you might find someone close to you who would come and do the setup for a few beer tokens

Hello again. So had a bit of a set back as someone attacked my car so spent qeekend popping a dent out and fixing grille 😞 didnt see the vcds chap. However had to drive around 300 miles and on the way home.....the light went out.

Joy

Oh joy.

20 min later back on with epc light. P0106. Also car stuttering around 2000 rpm. Im still going to see the vcds guy on the weekend but ia it worth replacing the map sensor? And if so whats best way to access it ( i may have asked previously )

It might just need a clean, it is tight to remove it but it is possible, just 2 torx self tapping screws hold it in and there is an "O" ring to seal it, so if you have JCB shovels for hands you'll struggle if not a torx bit in a 1/4" drive ratchet and you can get on the screws ok, if you do clean it only spray it with carb cleaner, don't use a brush or anything else as they are quite delicate.

If the EGR code hasn't returned ? it might be the system has learnt the values itself, like the throttle body adaption, by driving it around for 30 mins with varying throttle loads it learns the settings so not needing the VCDS adaption
