Evening all, I have recently purchased a 2005 VW polo 1.4 Litre, the power steering does not work, the dashboard light is permanently lit, I have the following information after having the codes read, 

Address 09: Cent. Elect. Labels:. 6Qx-937-049-C.lbl Part No: 6Q1 937 049 D Component: 00BK BN-SG. 1S34 Coding: 25742 Shop #: WSC 00788 VCID: 3C76BCD92CDE42AAC1-5140 1 Fault Found: 01309 - Power Steering Control Module (J500) 49-00 - No Communications

 

So what does this mean, where is the Power Steering control module located ???

 

The next fault is as follows

 

00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266) 30-00 - Open or Short to Plus

 

What do I need to change / replace to clear this fault

 

The next , and final fault is as follows.

 

1 Fault Found: 17809 - EGR Valve (N18) P1401 - 35-00 - Short to Ground Readiness: 1010 0101

 

So can anyone advise what I need to do in order to rectify this fault please,

First Welcome to the forum.

 

The power steering pump unit is below the passenger side headlight, I would start by checking the fuses #7 on the fusebox inside the car and the 50 amp fuse #3 or #5 on the battery fuse carrier, that fuse is the flat metal strip type, so have a good close look at it as they often fracture 

 

The other fault codes, I would delete them and re-scan in a weeks time to see if they have returned as they might of been stored a long time ago, however the fuse#7 for the power steering is also used for the oil level/temp sensor, so that might be two faults caused by one fuse if your lucky

Can you show me a fuse box layout please to enable me to identify fuse No 7 easily,

 

 

The Pump and control module are all in the one unit #4 in this picture

On this layout it's fuse S164

 

 

On this layout it's fuse S177

Update time, fuse F7 had blown, so it got replaced, immediately blew again, disconnected the pump, put in a new fuse, blew again, So looked at what else was on the same circuit, identified the EGR valve and a crankcase heater breather thing, unplugged the breather, Fuse no longer blows, 

 

So 

 

What is the proper name for the crankcase breather thingy, or better still what is the right part number, would like to get one from a good breaker or ebay, 

 

My car is a 2005 1,4 16V

hmm , I cant see the crankcase heater breather thing, it has an electrical connection and an element inside it ???

I have found the VIN number, WVWZZZ9NZ6Y174762   , but where do i get the engine type from ???

If you look at the picture on that link #3 is the connection for the heater element.

 

The engine code is the first three letters of the engine serial number on the V5 logbook
