Mk2 valve cover bolts

Featured Replies

I've done a very silly thing.

My rocker cover was leaking oil. I replaced the gasket. It was still leaking oil. I thought, "oh, maybe I didn't tighten it enough".

Snap.

I have a vague idea of how to get the remains of the old bolt out, but how on earth do I get a new one of these?

030 103 531 B would appear to be the part!

It's a non-standard sized shouldered bolt. m6 thread but 10mm x 30mm shoulder (all the generics are 8mm or 10mm but too short).

Got a used set ordered off ebay.

For now I'm going to try and use just a normal long M6 and a few washers as spacers and see if it seals well enough in the mean time. (also gonna bookmark that site, look like it'll be useful!)

Thanks very much! Back to the carb woes...

details wrong

I used  chromed flanged nuts (off Ebay) that screws to studs sticking out of the head which results in fitting the rubber grommets exactly, tightened with a allen key and end up flush on top of the cam cover. The rubber seals are not great and can't be trusted to seal well so I add gasket sealer to the top of the head only to stop the seal moving when the cam cover is tightened down. Concentrate on the corners of the end cam bearing caps because that is where I think most of the oil leaks. Check that you don't have a crankcase pressure issue, which these engines are known for, which would tend to push oil out from seals all over the engine.
