Identifying black foam blowimg through air vents

Featured Replies

I have a 6N that is blowing a dark grey/black foam through the air vents, often into my eyes. Grrrrr!

I assume this is a filter between outside the cabin and the air vents so it is quite important.  My questions therefore:

- is this indeed what it is?

- a part number would be amazing.

- is it easy to replace? I hope the entire dash doesn't need to come out.

- do I need it?

Thanks.

not a 6n owner , but on golfs they have heater flaps inside the heater box , you know what move when you select hot /cold /screen /feet etc , well the foam dies with old age and comes out the vents

guessing it that ?  need to do my golf over winter

Yes that sounds like it.   I have the Haynes manual so will investigate how to access the heater box.
