Hello all.

New to this site as didn't know it existed.

I have an 05 plate Mark 4 1.2 Polo Twist that's just gone and shat itself. Seems the timing chain has jumped a tooth, or two, smacked the valves and is now toast. It's a great little car and would be a shame to break it as everything else is in really good condition so I'm  investigating an engine swap. Wondering if anyone can tell me which year/model engines fit this one? Obviously want as low mileage as possible so presuming this would mean a later year engine so what's the latest year engine that fits this model? I'll be buying online so any advice on recommended suppliers and what to look for when searching would be a great help. Also if anyone has one for sale definitely interested in buying.

Hi Paul,

You need to establish what your engine code is and then buy an engine with the same code.  It'll be a 3-letter code on the data sticker on the boot floor, probably BMD or BME. If it's a BME and it has an EGR valve you'll need to find a replacement that also has one. EGR valve is the thing to the right hand side (as you look from in front of the car) of the exhaust manifold, with a stainless steel pipe leading off it back towards the intake manifold.
