1.3 AAV SPI to NZ MPI, benefits?

Featured Replies

I've got a 93 1.3 aav spi genesis which is currently fitted with a 1.8 golf throttle body (with the 1.3 injector)and GT cam. Its a nippy thing and is better than standard, but I used to have a 1990 1.3 NZ engine with the MPI setup on it, and even in standard form I seem to recall the NZ feeling pokier. Reading about, the MPI setup off a NZ coupled with a GT cam seems to provide good results, but woult there be any benefit over my current setup?

I kept the NZ engine with all its MPI setup, coil, ecu, and ecu loom and intended to swap the inlet manifold etc across. Looking at the loom there are a couple of differences in plugs where it meets the headlight loom etc but nothing that can't be sorted, just need to get hold of a 3 bar pump. Is it worth the faff or shall i just leave the AAV SPI setup in place?

Cheers,

Chris

Had a proper look at swapping the looms over today, the different plug down by the coil looks to be straight forward but I couldn't get my head round this 5 pin plug up near the ecu. there is also this 2 pin plug on the NZ loom which also needs a place, I'm assuming that this is the corresponing plug to the 5 pin one butI'm stuggling to find any info looking at diagrams, anyone have any ideas?

In an ideal world I should have kept the lighting loom from the NZ too...

Spent an afternoon with a meter and I've determined what each wire on the 5 pin spi loom which if anyone needs to know is:

Red/yellow-fuel pump

Yellow/white-diagnostics

Yellow-diagnostics

Yellow/black- yellow oil pressure switch

Blue/black- blue oil pressure switch

However still no idea what the red/black wire is for on the 2 pin plug for the NZ loom, goes to pin 21 on the digijet ecu and nowhere else, looking at the golf haynes manual there is no mention of pin 21 on the ecu nor a red/black wire running to the ecu. Anyone got any ideas? Possibly some sort of switched live?

possibly cranking signal...
