yeah ok...so best get the interior wiring for the pump from any mk2f...not too bad to make up if you had to    and yeah the g40 engine should just go in on its own pretty much like it says i

Of course they are! Thanks mate, i’m learning as I go on this lol.

so get a meter or test light now....pull the coil plug - does the brown go to earth ?    does the black show 12v with ign on?  if so correct

remember its the coil wiring so will cause grief if bodged up , worth making a nice sound job of it

how far are you from rendlesham ?  2 of us got polos there

Right, I will get the ECU and everything in a plugged in and throw a battery on it and check.

Im in Hadleigh, just west of Ipswich so not a million miles away :D

just one point ,  before trying the key go around and double check all the earth wires are fitted and tight , bad or a missing earth can kill the ecu so it will get expensive

worth considering adding a fatter or additional earths , such as chassis to alternator bracket or the gearbox mount

Ok, got all the earths sorted and everything plugged into where it needs to go (engine loom) plugged in the ECU put a battery on it and checked the coil voltage. 12v! :D

Whats next? Lol

fuel pumps run when ign on? relays click?

The fuel pump loom was literally just dropped off by the postman 5 mins ago. Ive gotta pop into Ipswich to get some parts and when I get home, I will tackle the fuel pumps. I think i only have a two pin plug for the lift pump which has three pins........ 😮

Nothing popped or went up in smoke though, so Im taking that as a positive!

lol no pun intended

all 2f pump looms should be 3 pin on the lift pump

Think this is the lift pump plug and wires, is there a simple way of splicing this into the existing wiring by the sender unit? I’m a bit lost with this now.

what else do you have....is it all the way up to the front plug and the rear pump?

  • Author

Yes I think so, I’ve tried to upload a photo but the file size is bigger than 2mb 🤬 I’ve got a red/yellow and a brown what I think is for the in line pump at rear. The rest of the loom is up to the fuse box plugs yes. But it’s a mess

the purple and thin brown are same ...join those somewhere if you wish

then should be a thick brown and yellow /red to the main pump at the back

id earth that fat brown with an eyelet under the dash

yellow is sposed to go via the fuse panel connector , but i guess a spade will do it

This is the thick yellow / red and brown I assume for the pump at rear, so just run the brown to earth under dash, and connect the yellow red to the yellow red in the scuttle near the ECU?

yes

Brill, one more thing, the thin red/yellow on the lift pump, what should I do with that?

same crimp as the thick one

thats the live to both pumps

You sir are a star. I’ll let you know how I get on.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Right, I think everything is connected up, I’ve just tried the ignition and I’m not getting any prime from the lift pump. I haven’t had the bottle to start it just yet, any ideas on what I should do or have done?

Cheers.

I have also just tried to crank it over and there’s nothing happening when I turn the key. I’ve got the live and alternator wires fitted to the starter and the black / red spade connector attached to the terminal nearest the block. Stumped!

is it the orig mk2 starter wiring ?  all still in place it should have a connector near the manifold

Yes, I have retained the Mk2 wiring for the starter and alternator, there was a light blue thin wire from the alternator, which I joined back up to the corresponding plug, spliced the red black starter spade connection into the G40 loom as suggested.
