Not been on here in a while but I've recently undergone my biennial procedure of buying a Polo. 😂 I picked up a little 6n2 TDI to daily alongside my Soarer and I'm having a couple of little issues. 

 

Firstly, my temperature gauge is VERY intermittent. I'll be driving along and it'll be sat at the right temperature no problems. Then it'll drop to around 70, then it'll die completely, then it'll be back up to 90. Then it'll be off again and so forth. No pattern to it. Is this likely to be a duff temp sender or an issue on the clock end? My partners Lupo GTI has a similar issue where the temp gauge just doesn't work at all and hasn't for years. 

 

Secondly, the alarm is very sensitive. Is there a way to disconnect it entirely? As I quite often have my dog in the car and if I ever nip into a shop the alarm will just go off constantly until I unlock the car again. 🤔 I know some of them have a switch you can press each time but mine doesn't seem to and remembering would still be a pain.

Can't help with the alarm problem I'm afraid.

 

As for the temperature gauge, it would normally sit at around 90°C, so the fact that it seems to be 'all over the place', possibly indicates a poor electrical connection - The problem, of course, is in locating it.

 

As its the easiest to access, I suggest that you start at the temperature sender end, checking connections.

You will probably find that the colours of the wires on the sender are: Blue and White; Brown and White: Yellow and Red (to the gauge).

Any joints that you can find with these colours in them, should also be checked for being clean and tight.
