MK2 breadvan exhaust no longer available?

Featured Replies

hi All

have recently brought a bread van for my son

it is very noisy and looks like previous owner has welded in a section deleting the rear silencr.

looking on line no one seems to sell the rear silencr

is it no longer available? or does anyone know where I might get one.

Thanks

Andrew

loads avail...try ebay

If you've a decent local carparts store try them, can surprise you what they can get, that's where I got my last one although that was a good few years ago.

Gsf don't seem to list them, maybe don't do exhausts at all anymore.

Thanks

the above exhaust is from 1984 onwards

my sons car is 1982

went for an mot and was told exhaust leak , told them to order rear silencer and fit , several weeks later and they have contacted several suppliers , result no longer available, they advised would need to get it fabricated , quoted 235£

went back to garage and asked if I welded up the hole would it pass, answer yes it should do

so thats what I did, booked in for a re mot and just in passing said its still noisy but thats because it has no rear silencer mot man then says it will not pass without a rear silencer , yet its clearly passed before without one

dont really want to shell out 235 on a SS back box

do you really need a rear silencer to pass an MOT

would a later from 1984 onwards rear silencer fit?

thanks

Andrew

if you can weld i bet the later one can be adapted

otherwise you can get a cheap universal silenecer cheaper than 235 and make that work

still not that convinced the 82 would be that different...i know the tank and handbrake is so maybe

just been asking around and im told the later parts should fit your car , theyre suggesting getting the whole system so it matches

take a look at them on ebay and see if they look suitable
