I'm installing a 1.4 16V 75hp AHW engine from a W-reg Lupo in to my '84 breadvan, and have been looking for a de-cat 4-branch manifold to suit.

The enclosed photos show a stainless manifold that has come up for sale, and was originally bought for a W-reg 1.4 Polo but never fitted. The guy selling it don't know any more details about the Polo - whether it was a 16V or 8V, or what power rating it was.

 

All the ones I can find online (ebay fitment check) that look like this, say they are not compatible with my engine - Does anyone recognise this manifold, and do you think it will fit the AHW?

bolt pattern and hole shape may well be wrong.

 

I recall oval ports on the Lupo with AHW as this confirms

I have got a new unused cast AHW exhaust manifold with the minikat.

I can photo that at the weekend if you want to see the shape. On an ancient mk2 you could knock the cat out I suppose. 

I've got the complete Lupo, but have been concentrating on welding up the Polo before I start stripping anything for the engine swap. The Lupo has a fabricated 4-branch, which I would expect to breath reasonably well - I'll need the O2 sensor for it to run (I intend to use the Lupo ECU & keep it injection) - but could do as you say, and knock out the cat brick. It's just that the stainless manifold looks so much sexier...

And you were right - oval ports on AHW (found this example from a Golf on eBay)

I wonder whether the 100hp Lupo had different manifold?

I know the exhaust was centre exit and larger bore.

 

That thing on cylinder 4 pipe is for the EGR valve. Pretty sure you can blank it off.

 

This costs more than most Lupos
