Hi,

 

Looking for advice on sourcing a fuel sender unit. 

 

My fuel gauge has never worked and the fuel sender unit was pretty badly rusted to the side of the tank when I've had a look. 

 

I've freed this and cleaned it up where possible, though the fuel gauge is now reading over the limit? Think this is beyond repair. 

 

Does anyone know where I might be able to source this? I can't find anything online that I know will work but my knowledge isnt the best!

As the gauge is now reading full scale this means the sensor output is shorting to ground, there is very little you can do to repair the sensor unit here's a link to the part number https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/polo+derby+vento-ind/po/1993-120/9/919-97050/#3 I would try VW Heritage https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/ or search eBay with the part number 

Or the float is jammed or stuck in the ‘tank full’ position.

 

If you disconnect the wiring from the sender does the gauge drop? If so it proves the issue is with the sender.
