G40 Trabant

Featured Replies

HI All,

I am looking for some help and forgive me as i am new to this and very green....

I have put a G40 turbo in a Trabant 1.1, engine is running and the major steps have been completed. However it is not running well at all.

The AFR is reading between 15-17 when on gas. WHen i start the car it idels well 10-12 but after a min or so the AFR goes up.

I have tried to adjust the fuel regulator but it does not seem to make much difference other than once closed engine dies.

Also when driving the car (which i have not done much of due to the poor AFR readings) after about 2000 RPM if you give it gas the power gets reduced.

I am hoping to get any input as to what I can look at that could be causing this.

Thanks in advance ,

Mike

you are thinking of the 601, the 1.1 is the 4 stroke.

On Trabi brakes?

suggests 14.6 to 14.9 at idle when warm, as you would expect from FI car with ECU control. And 11.8:1 at full boost.

CO pot in tube to throttle body can adjust idle fuelling.

If it can't you might be letting air into intake system.

(many hoses).

Fuel pump in good condition? What is fuel pressure?

That's very sensible.

Trabant had gravity fed carb without pump, I recall.

So the Fuel Pressure Regulator below inlet manifold is suspect.

yes i am suspecting this also about the fuel pressure regualtor. can it be fixed or replaced?

Pretty sure it is a Bosch part.

Maybe 0 280 160 227 used on several turbo cars too (Saab 9000 Porsche 944)

Should have a VW part number on it, so please check as fuel pressure is critical.

I don't know whether repairable.

Try clubg40 ?

you can test the fuel pressure easily...test kit is around £15 on ebay

thanks, i am pretty confident now that the pump is not supplying enough pressure for the fuel regulator to work properly, I will change pump and try.

did you fit the diagnostic socket...while it wont tell you the fuel pressure it might be handy to diagnose problems

No, and  i dont really know where this is, could you tell me more about fitting this?

you need this from a mk2f it behind the glove box , it connects to the ecu wiring and 12v
