Any wattage of LED is likely to throw up a warning message due to the fact LED's draw lower power than normal bulbs

First Welcome to the forum.

Are the originals HB4 ? as I had the same problem on my Touareg, the seller I bought them fromhttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/352671038866?hash=item521cd4fd92:g:x7UAAOSw7xdc5VC8  also sold the adapters to stop the warning messages you will get if you don't have VCDS to re-code the BCM to tell it you have fitted LED's in the end I carefully twisted the contacts 90 deg in the bulbs and then they connected up OK

Hi Nige,

The originals are not HB4, I believe them to be https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs/580-w21%2F5w-car-bulb-manufacturers-standard-halfords-single-pack-717995.html . How would an adapter work? I think they also dont look right for my stock connector.

Twisting the contacts wouldnt work either as the connector on the LEDs doesnt fit (i think)

That link is for a sidelight bulb not a fog light, the parts list shows this as the Halogen bulb N 10130001 http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/catalog/vw/markt/RDW/modell/PO/year/2014/drive_standart/678/hg_ug/941/subcategory/941040/part_id/3690176/lang/e and when I googled the N10130001 it came back as the HB4 ??

The adapter from that eBay seller will correct any CANbus errors that will be thrown up unless you either fit that adapter or re-code the BCM to tell it you have LEDs

Hi Nige,

This is where i am getting really confused since "everywhere" has different information. I have just went down to the car and pulled the trip and housing out to get at the bulb. Here are the pictures i took here - https://imgur.com/a/UIUNWOn - The Bulb inside is a W21W

EDIT: I think these may be classed as DRLs since i dont have front fogs?

Ah OK that is strange then the black plastic bit is just a adapter from the wiring loom to the W21W bulb but most W21W are only 5W which is far too low for a Fog light normally only used as a side light, you can get W21W LED's in higher wattage like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142405400553?epid=527641248&hash=item212805f7e9:g:V2gAAOSwMwJfWgl6  but as I said before without VCDS you will probably get bulb failure warnings if you don't re-code for LED's

Hi Nige,

Thanks for your help! Just making sure here, I should be able to use any W21W LED but i may get an error if i do? Due to not needed high powered ones, do you think the 5w would also throw an error?

A 5W in the fog light will be like a dying glow worm giving next to no usable light, all depends if you just want them for show or actually need the light from them ?
