Well, this is now the third door lock in the last 4 years that has started to fail intermittently on our 2002 Polo. The annoying thing is it always happens just before our MOT in October, resulting in having to pay a garage to fit a new one by literally taking the door apart. Now the car has done 115K we have just got it through a service but if the lock finally stops working (as did with the other 2 doors after sticking intermittently) it will only pass an MOT if replaced which will be near enough £300.

 

At the moment the barrel has to be manually pushed down to ensure the door is locked, despite all other 3 doors locking electronicky. It will only be a matter of time till it stays down with no way of moving it. Can't afford the prices of newer cars at the moment so was hoping to have it another year at least.

 

For German engineering this really is poor.

I was hoping for at least one comment. 

I have a mate who is a mechanic and a bit of a door lock "whisperer".    Do you want to send me a PM with anymore detail that you can manage?  I've seen him open doors with two or three heavy slaps in different areas of the door.  On my girlfriend's car the remote locking utilises a vacuum pump in the boot area - does yours have the same arrangement?  As I say - PM me with anything that might be useful.  Cheers
