How to remove oil dipstick tube ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I want to remove the oil dipstick tube on 1.3 55hp engine (carb). It seems quite tight but I don't know if I should just pull it or turn it anti-clockwise before pulling or else. I don't want to break the tube since it's not easy to find.

Not sure I understand. So I have to push the tube inside the crankcase to remove it ?

I think Steve's words were autocorrected away from 'tight push-fit' to something less meaningful, by his phone, probably.

So pull hard; but a bit of twisting in any direction will probably help, as might a bit of penetrating fluid.

Ok thanks for answering. I'll try as you suggested 🤞

Thank you again @Pete1

I tried as you said and successfully removed the oil dipstick tube. It was a bit stucked so I had to twist by turning it just a bit left/right several times so it could freely move. Then I pulled hard but very slowly and get it off.

I've asked the same on another forum but didn't get any answers. So I've already damaged the tube a bit using a plier because I thought it was screwed from inside or something like. That was before I decided to ask here. Hopefully I think I didn't broke the whole thing and I believe it is still in good condition.

I was a bit surprised that the dipstick doesn't exceed the bottom end of the tube (meaning the dipstick length is shorter or equal to the tube). I was expecting a small length of the dipstick to exceed a little on the tube bottom end. I don't know if this how it should be on this engine or not. I hope my English doesn't sound too bad to understand...

The damage is not a problem, but I have no idea if the relative lengths of dipstick and tube are normal. Could well be. Is there a part number anywhere on the dipstick?

Looking the parts on partsouq, I can see 2 assemblies of the oil dipstick tube.

cylinder block with pistons oil pan F >> 80-K-220 000

and

cylinder block with pistons oil pan F 80-L-000 001>>

I'm not aware of my engine or chassis number so I don't know which of these should match mine. I just know I have a 2G or MH engine (55hp with pierburg 2E3). So I think I have to remove the crankcase and watch if some parts of the dipstick where left inside when I pulled it off. Feel free to tell me what you think

Ok @Pete1 I'll clean the tube and try to look for any part number and will take the dimensions to compare with size I may found on internet.

Chassis number as written there relates to VIN like this:

Cut off the first 6 characters of the VIN, then replace the third and fifth digit of what's left (9th and 11th digits of the full VIN) with "-"

You should find the remaining string of characters has a structure like the 80-L-000001 or the other.

@Pete1 I've removed the first 6 characters. What's left in my VIN looks like 80XXXdddddd (X are letters and d are digits)

The 3rd character of what's left is a letter instead of a digit in my VIN (1st X above). I replaced it with a "-" anyway.

The 5th character of what's left is a digit in my VIN (last X above). I replaced it with a "-".

The result structure is 80-X-dddddd where X is "M" which means my engine number (or should it be chassis ?) is in "F >> 80-K-220 000" instead of "F 80-L-000 001>>". Am I wrong (not sure if I correctly understand the numbering) ?

Or should it be "F 80-L-000 001>>" because the arrow ">>" could mean after ? (sorry for the confusion)

You are wrong but, but you're almost there! 🙂

F>>80-K-220 000 means "for chassis numbers up to (and including)" that number.

F 80-L-000 001>> means "from this chassis number onwards".

So yours is in the second category.

Thanks. Good to know my mistake. From people telling us (and explaining) our mistakes we learn much more 👍
