Polo 04 reg 1.2 oil light

Featured Replies

Pete mate I have a orange oil light keep showing up after I start the car. My uncle pulled the cover off the engine when he was looking for the servo hose. And the oil light was showing because he had not replaced it properly. I was just wondering should I have a rubber bit on the front metal pipe because there is none and if this is what probably causing it as the dipstick looks fine.

I don't think this will be anything to do with the engine top cover David.

Is it a picture of an oil can you're seeing, lit up constantly orange? Does it stay on, or go out after a while?

Yes mate orange light flashing for five seconds after it starts but when he had not put that on properly it was showing as red but now when I straighten that cover and put it down tight it is not flashing at all then after I have drive it’s showing up again hence me thinking there is a rubber missing because it does not sit tight in that front pipe

The engine cover looks to have just been slightly misaligned when refitted. There's a plastic tube coming vertically downwards at the front of the cover that's meant to slide over the outside of the metal tube coming up off the exhaust manifold shroud. Take it off again and refit with that correctly aligned, it's probably rattling as it is?

The oil pressure switch is what will trigger a red oil warning light, so check the wiring to that isn't damaged, I'll find an image of where it is for you shortly.

The yellow/orange light is usually to do with oil level, which is a different sensor, down next to the dipstick tube base, so have a look at the connector/wiring there too for damage.

It’s not doing it when I straighten this cover and when I have drove I’m guessing the engine rattling is moving this cover so when I restart it it’s showing orange light flashing for a few seconds is there not suppose to be a rubber on the front metal pipe so it sits tightly.

Just saw a video of one removed and no rubber there so maybe I just top the oil up haha any ideas which best 5 30 or 5 40 mate

Make sure it fits so that slides over, and make sure the bit that fits over the throttle body further back is slipping down over that correctly.

I use 5w40 quantum platinum on our 1.2. Usually just over £20 for 5 litres via ebay.

When was it last changed, with the oil filter?

Actually, maybe it isn't misaligned in your pic, there's a bit of a kink in the end of the black plastic tube, right?

I don’t know what u mean mate the black plastic tube ? And I just not long bought it like a month ago with 12 month mot havent changed no oil. And I just topped it u with half a litre of 5 30 and the light was not showing then sure enough when I drove it home tried to start it it came on again got out banged the cover down straightened it and then it’s not showing

If it's showing yellow check for wiring damage or loose connector at the level sensor down by the base of the dipstick tube, if it's showing red check for same sort of thing at the oil pressure switch.

Orange mate

Check the oil level with the dipstick when it's cold. I think yours is one of the few engines that are recommended to be checked when cold.

It looked full when I topped it up a bit before I will show you the dipstick because it’s a weird one

Thing is it’s on a bank atm my street has an incline.

But now the oil light is not showing it seems to be after I have drove it then when I start it again and after I align that cover it does not come on until I drive again and go to start it.

God I’m clueless it’s just flashing orange oil can 5 seconds every time I have been in the car then go to start it again other than that it’s not flashing. You think maybe just an oil change is all that’s needed?
