Airbag light on after replacing fan resistor

Featured Replies

Hi

As per title, I had to replace the heater fan resistor as it would only either be fully on or off. The fan now works correctly but the airbag light is on - am I going to have to take it in to get it reset, or is there something that I can do myself?

Thanks,

First Welcome to the forum.

You will need the correct diagnostic kit preferably VCDS to reset the airbag warning light

Thanks!

Does the light being on indicate that the airbag won't deploy?

It indicates the airbag ecu has a stored fault code, I'm guessing that you had the passenger side airbag disconnected while replacing the fan resistor or pushed the passenger seat fully back and might of pulled a connector out under the seat and you put the ignition on to test the fan and that would of stored a fault code, so if it was you disconnected the airbag once it was reconnected it would work in the event of a problem but if it's a seat connector then the seat airbag wouldn't deploy until the connector was refitted

Hi

Thanks for your message - as you suggested, I did indeed turn the fan on when the airbag was still disconnected, just to check that the new resistor was doing its job. So, sounds like the light is just a stored error from me doing that.

Yes the airbag ecu will of seen an open circuit for the passenger airbag and logged it as a fault code so you will need the diagnostic kit to cancel the stored code and that will put the warning light out
