Hey guys! I have a very strange problem.
During these months my Polo 6N2 2001 (AUA Engine) was running great, but I had to take the EGR apart for cleaning it and for removing it I had to remove the throttle body aswell.
So I did what I had to do and refitted all together, and connected VD500 scan tool for relearning the throttle position. I noticed that all the lights were ON except for EPC and CEL (I have to say that my ECU is not from a Polo but a Lupo, had to swap it since the old ECU was not good [a mechanic did it, and f*cked up some stuff. In fact the CEL was not showing since then]). Anyway, I've ignored the problem for the moment and keep going with the scanner, but guess what? Cannot establish any connection with the ECU. That's where stuff got very strange, so I checked all the fuses and they were all fine except for number #41 and #42 (15A fuses), swapped them with brand new ones but nothing. Any ideas on what could it be? Or I have to take the whole dashboard apart e check for every connection? Thank you for your attention 🙂

Can you try with another code reader preferably VCDS as by year your car isn't fully OBD2 compliant and needs a VAG specific reader 

 

You can get around the throttle body alignment process just by driving the car around for about 20/30 mins and just use a full range of engine revs & loads

Thanks Nige, I'll give it a try with VCDS, even tough it's kinda odd not having the CEL and EPC not lighting up 😕

There is something in the back of my brain that the Lupo's came in CANbus & Non CANbus versions, so I'm wondering if your ECU is a non version and that is why it's not connecting to your reader ?? or the version of CAN your reader is trying to read just isn't compatible with the pre-OBD2 version that your VW runs ??

 

The power to the OBD socket is from fuse #11 5 amp, the two fuses you replaced #41/42 are for the central locking/alarm system & the radio, the supplies for the ECU are a battery live supply via fuse # 31 5amp & two ignition ON supplies via fuses #34 & #36 10 & 15amp #34 is for the coil power #36 is for the ECU there is also fuse #3 10amp for the injectors, fuse #30 15 amp for the charcoal valve & fuse #1 10amp for the Lambda sensor heating elements

Sorry for the late response. My car I guess it's a NON canbus version, since I saw "K-line" somewhere if i'm not wrong... I'm not very expert on this stuff honestly, but I'm pretty sure it's not a canbus version. In case it could be, there's any way to know it? Thanks again Nige!

Have a look at the OBD connector and see if you have contacts in #6 & 14 I think you will find there is, that means you do have CanBus
