Temperature light constantly flashing on my mk2f gt dash.

 

Levels are correct,  fan kicks in when it should . I unplugged blue sensor and coolant plug but still flashes? I don't have any issues with overhearing. 

 

 

blue is ecu temp , black is dash gauge 

 

does the coolant tank have 2 wires going to it?

I'm sure it does have two wires going into the coolant tank , but I check tomorrow. 

if it does...join the two wires with a paper clip .scrap wire , does the light go off ?  if so its the tank sensor 

 

if not id say its the cluster at fault  

It does have two wires , but today light did not come on . So I keep this open and see what if anything happens on my next drive . 

Just been for drive and its on again . So I done as advised with looping wire and its still flashing ? 

 

Take out cluster and replace ? 

see if anyone else replies ...it would suggest to me possible cluster fault 

I've had a cluster out before but it's knowing what needs replacing. Easy enough if you know the component that need replacing. 

 

For now I will live with it until I get more time. I might have another gt cluster but it will have different mileage.

Would fitting a second temperature gauge be possible ? Has anyone done it ? 

what would a second one fix?  

 

could have multiple ones if you wanted , wont make his light stop flashing

You can swap the speedo heads between clusters if you wanted to make a good one out of the two. If you're having the clocks apart, it's worth having a look for corrosion, anything burnt looking and dry solder joints.

Delete dash one and install a gauge ?

Yeah that's the plan and didn't even know that was possible. 

Yeah, the clusters are quite modular inside. 

I need to go up into loft and go through some boxes of spares and check out what I got etc. 

Hi hope you enjoyed stanford Hall. I have an update I plugged in my code reader and as in photo following fault code came up.? 

This has happened to me now. I've ordered a pair of new sensors as i wanted a Hella blue anyway, i think they are the best now VAG and Beru are no longer available. I've linked my tank connector out, it makes no difference, i think this is the latest side story in my cluster issues saga. The cluster PCB is still available from DE.

The cluster PCB is no longer listed on classic parts.

To my surprise, the cluster PCB on the GT is now back in stock.

Control unit for VW Polo Mk2

There is a second unit listed with suffix E also.

The new board arrived without me having to pay any customs, so 125euro all in. The board won't come out of the plastic housing due to the black multiplug retaining clips being solid, not flexible; they are just moulded lumps. This means you have to bend the plastic finger out of the way to connect your illumination ribbon, i warmed it with a heat gun. Car immediately runs better, especially after the aux air valve has closed and it's still a bit cold. Also seems not to mind damp weather like it used to. So the Digifant definitely talks to the cluster board.
