Lambda sensor issue 2003 1.4 16v BBY engine

Featured Replies

Hi all, new member here and first time post

My engine light has been on for some time and I know it is my lambda sensor as I've had it scanned and it's the pre-cat sensor needs replacing.

That's fine however I've been looking for a replacement part and maybe being slightly stupid here I can't work out what one I need.

I know my engine code is BBY and I know I need the pre-cat sensor.

Looking online is confusing me as there's so many to choose from plus fitment options such as 6 poles, 4 poles, however many mm. I don't just want to buy one thinking it's right then I've gone and got the wrong one.

If someone could simply tell me what is the correct one to purchase for a 1.4 16v 75bhp 2003 BBY engine polo I would truly appreciate it

Many thanks in advance

Emma

Hi Emma, is the car an automatic, or does it have manual gear change?

Scroll down the item 12s here and you'll see the part numbers for each as 030906262K or 030906262G respectively:

LLLParts

I'm not suggesting that site as somewhere to buy from, just using their parts diagrams.

What exact fault code did the scan show?

Best bet is probably to find a genuine one or well known brand on ebay, by searching the appropriate part number.

Hey

It's a Manual gearbox

The code I got was P1178

Then I had a mechanic plug it in and it told him bank 1 O2 sensor and something about the EGR valve needing to be blocked off.

Thanks for those codes, I'll see if i can find anything

The bit about blocking off the EGR makes me a little uneasy about your mechanic. That would be illegal and an MOT fail if spotted, and I don't see any relevance to the current issue.
