9n3 engine conversion wiring

Featured Replies

Hi, new member, have got a 9n3 1.2 and planning a few modifications to it.

Looking for a genuine answer,  not just 'sell it and buy a gti'  I'll be honest, that's not helpful.

So, already have the car, brake and suspension upgrades are underway, bodywork and interior also sorted.

Have an engine ready to fit, a 1.8gti 20vt, complete, intercooler,  exhaust etc.

Ecu has immobiliser deleted and I have a polo gti loom from bulkhead forward.

My question is regarding the loom, is it just plug and play? Is there any difference with interior loom or can I retain my original.

I'm not wanting any trip computer, or cruise control,  happy with manual mirrors and windows.

Any input appreciated, cheers

With VCDS you will need to use the dropdown list of options in the Adaptions sections for the re-coding, the dealers workshop manual unfortunately doesn't show the options for your model like it does

Apologies if in wrong place, maybe it should be in engine section

First Welcome to the Forum.

What engine code is the one you're intending to install ?

Never looked into it, but I'd be surprised if there aren't significant differences in the loom the other side of the bulkhead, the relays and probably the instrument cluster.

I expect/hope there are  folks on here who've done it though, who'll be more help.

Hi everyone,  thanks for the replies.

It's a bjx going in there.

Will try and find a wiring diagram for the polo, I have the bjx one printed off already.

If it's anything like the mk4 golf platform it appears the plugs are near identical connection wise, just colours differ between cars, obviously it's 2 plugs versus 6(?) on mk4/leon/tt.

I have a mk2 golf aswell which has an audi S3 engine in it, that needed  the loom completely modifying, was hoping this would be a little simpler.

I'll see what can find out.

Again appreciate the help.

Oh, figured the speedo cluster needed replacement as it's going from 3 to 4 cylinder.

The speedo might not need to be replaced but just re-coded, if not it should be a Plug n Play swop as your ECU has the immob deleted

Looking at the rest of the engine loom the only thing that I have spotted so far is the BJX has a secondary air pump with the relay inside the car so the connections for this will probably be missing ?

Cool, have looked at part numbers, and does seem 3 and 4 cylinder non mfa speedo is the same, so thank you for pointing I'm in the right direction, presume vcds can recode it?

The sai has been deleted too from the ecu so that's good news too, excellent.

Honestly really appreciate the help, not just a reply asking "Why?"

Quick spec of the polo, 2006 9n3 in flash red, leon cupra r discs and calipers front and rear, 17" tt comps, 35mm lowered,  gti headlights,  full bluemotion kit and spoiler.

Currently has gti style front bumper plus grilles,  but will get changed to a genuine gti but full colour coded with bluemotion grille.

Engine to fit, bjx 1.8t,  seat sport intercooler,  hybrid turbo and full milltek exhaust.

Long term project,  was originally bought for my son, but I've ended up with it.

Again,  thank you,  D

VCDS will give you the re-coding options in section 17 Instrument and you might need to look at the ABS/TCS/ASR settings as well ?

You might also like to do a build thread in this section https://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/51-mk7-polo/ as you will see on this forum the 9N3 is referred too as a MK7 not a 4f

Brilliant.

Did struggle on the registration page, only let me scroll to mk6, so took it as original,  mk2, mk2 facelift 6n, 6n2,  9n then 9n facelift, followed by subsequent 6r, 6c etc.

Will start a thread when get a spare ten minutes.

Will look at vcds, is there a guide with reference to code changes for abs etc?

With VCDS you will need to use the dropdown list of options in the Adaptions sections for the re-coding, the dealers workshop manual unfortunately doesn't show the options for your model like it does for some of the earlier models, it just says "follow the on screen instructions"
