Recently replaced the alternator and took the throttle body off to clean it as i was getting sticking. Put it all back together and now the car wont idle it just dies. Will start first turn of the key and run for a few minutes until temps rise on the guage and then the choke kicks off and it dies. 

Things i have checked so far-

-Alternator/battery steady 14v when running 

-Air leaks- cant identify any obviously

-Grounds all seem fine , cleaned up and refitted. 

-The chamber inside the throttle body for when the butterflys are closed is clean-- however cant find info on idle screw setting. 

- new coolant temp sensors, both blue and black on front right of engine. 

 

Any comments and advice welcome. 

If it's OK when it's cold, on a GT, I'd suspect it's related to the lambda sensor.

 

From memory, I think there's an earth wire goes to a ring connector on the TB, possibly from the lambda - Has this got a good connection? It's only a thin wire with a lightweight terminal on, make sure it's undamaged, wire not frayed, etc. 

 

GT's are very picky about earthing. pretty much the first thing to do when troubleshooting is run a jump lead from the engine (preferably the inlet manifold area)  to battery negative and see if it improves.

think its undo blue coolant sensor and set the idle screw to 950 when warm

 

have another look over your work if it was fine before

I need to get under the car later and check the lambda , wasn't sure if it had one as its got a decat and 4 2 manifold , and a cheap one by the looks of it too :(. I'll check the earth's again as the previous owners wiring is poor at best. Couldn't see any wiring connections on the throttle body itself though.

did you refit the vac hoses same as how they were?

Aye they all went back on as they came off. I am going to remove the throttle body tonight and check the gasket and replace if necessary as i have some flexoid gasket paper to make a fresh one if needed as part of me is thinking it may be a vac leak . Also got a 2x2-OBDII lead and vcds lite now and a vcds cable so hoping to get some more information from the car that way.

There should be a spindly little eye connector using one of the TB mounting screws as an earth. It will trace back to one of 2 multiplugs down the back of the manifold, and from there to the lambda.

all been earthed on the corner of the inlet mani that ive seen

Update on the issues: 

Re-cleaned carb and fitted new gaskey.

Checked vac lines

Checked for air leaks

Reset idle screw 

 

Car still starts lovely and runs and idles fine until at temp then will only run with black guage plug unplugged. dies if plugged in but needs to be plugged in to start the car and have it run when cold but needs to be unplugged when hot 

black is the sender for the dash gauge so nothing related to a running problem unless the wiring has been messed with

Yup looks like wiring has been messed with. The car started off as a genesis and has a gt engine and interior now but it's a project for me to do after work. Wiring Is questionable so looks like thats where the problem lies. Instant changes in fueling etc when that plug is removed or installed and the dash gauge still shows readings when unplugged 🤯

so its a black sensor and black plug socket?

 

can you post some pics showing the wire colours to both ?  any joins or signs of work in the wiring ?

Thanks for the help steveo3002 finally got it sorted after checking the wiring loom, looks like whoever did the conversion wired the plugs the wrong way round along with some dodgy connections. All sorte now and back running happy with new sensors 

good news...watch out if non genuine sensors , they can be terrible
