Polo CLP Fuse 55 keeps blowing when ignition switched On

I have unplugged ECM, ABS and Fuel pump together with their relays but it's still blowing.  Amazingly when I remove fuse 3 (5amp) and switch ignition On fuse 55 doesn't blow. Can any pls tell me what causes the fault.

  • Try reconnecting cylinder 3 coilpack first. Often the hottest one.

What year is the car please?

I think you have a short to ground in the ignition coil loom, or a coilpack that has failed short-circuit.

Unplug all four coilpack connectors, fit new fuse, see if it blows. If it doesn't, reconnect one at a time until it blows. The last connected coilpack is the one to replace.

It's 2011 model.

I am going to try it and will give feedback later.   Thank you

I disconnected coilpacks as advised and fuse 55 didn't blow. As I connect and test each, I found that number 3 is the faulty one and I replaced it. Amazingly fuse 45(15amp) blows immediately when I connect the battery. This fuse is for Audio System, I'm not sure for what else. ☹️

True.. It's the one blowing the fuse.   Thank you

Fuse # 45 is for the audio/navigation system and the voltage stabiliser unit if you have Stop/Start ?

Any progress on this second problem @Karamash? Does the car have Start/stop?

Hi Pete

Sorry I've been away since the weekend.  My car hasn't got Stop/Start nor Navigation. It has got Parrot system for hands free phone connection. The still doesn't start as there's no power on Injectors and Coil packs.

@Karamash Did you replace fuse 3 as well as fuse 55 once there were no faulty coilpacks in the car any more?

I think fuse 3 has an indirect role in energising the relay which supplies 12V to both the coilpack fuse (#55) and the injector fuse (#31).

Hi Pete 1. After changing coil 3, I replaced the fuses #55 and#3. They don't now anymore.

1) It's now #45 which blows immediately I connect the battery.

2) ABS pump makes a continuous sound when I connect the battery
