Hi all,

Was after a bit of help... I have a Polo 9N, 1.2 12v 2004 WITH Air Con. I need to buy an aux belt for it but all motor factors sell 1873 or 1880 length with no distinguishing factors (both just "with aircon").

 

No markings on old belt and cant really see a decent way of measuring it down to the millimetre since the difference is so small!

 

Wondered if anyone knew how to tell which belt is needed? I assume its something stupid like depends on air con compressor brand or something like....

I'd order both, take the old one off, cut it and lay it flat, measure that, then go for the closest new belt measurement under what you've got (assuming it's the same number of ribs), then take the other one back.  

 

To be fair though, there's easily 10mm in the tensioner, so I wouldn't stress too much on it. 

 

If anything, the difference is likely to be the alternator pulley. 

It'll be the 1873mm one I'd say.

A12-valve will be engine code AZQ or BME. A 2004 car car must be model year 2004 or 2005, I think, not MY2003 which it would have to be to be the 1880mm one. 

F >> [chassis number] means 'for chassis numbers up to and including this one'.

F  [chassis number] >> means from this number onwards. 

MY is the character in the position 8th from the right hand end, so a 3 in the examples shown, signifying MY2003.

Awesome thanks for that.. sorted! Am wondering if it has a 1880mm one on it now and thats why it slips at very low RPM (and always has done - tried changing tensioner and made no difference).
