ABD ECU

Featured Replies

Hello again! I'm having some struggles figuring out the rev counter (camshaft sensor) wires for my ABD ECU.

Does anyone know anything about it, I believe it's in the distributor but I'm not sure of it.

If possible I'd also like to know the DATA and GROUND wires as the wiring diagram doesn't identify them.

And about the crankshaft sensor, there's two wires that go to the ECU pinout, red/black and white/green, how do i identify which one is ground and data?

Thanks!

There is no crankshaft sensor, the ECU uses the sensor in the distributor (G40) as the reference signal as it's coupled to the crankshaft via the timing belt, on the distributor the Red/Black is the supply,  Brown/Black is the ground & Green/White is the signal output

Cheers! What program is that? It seems a lot more detailed than autodata

It's from ElsaWin that is a copy of the dealer manuals it covers all VAG models from 1994 to 2016 (the version I have) not only the wiring diagrams but the  workshop manuals/crash repair manual/ service schedules, it's normally available on eBay (UK) but it's a very large program, if you install all the other VAG makes it's around 90Gb !!

i forgot to ask, what pins does the g40 wire up to?

Pin 3 (G40) Red/Black to ECU pin 8

Pin 2 (G40) Green/White to ECU pin 13

Pin 1 (G40) Brown/White to ECU pin 20

ECU ground on pin 1 Brown wire goes to ground point on cylinder head

Pin 1 (G40) Brown/White to ECU pin 20 (?) < what exactly is this one?

Pin 2 (G40) Green/White to ECU pin 13 (DATA)

Pin 3 (G40) Red/Black to ECU pin 8 (LIVE FEED/Supply?)

I don't think it makes sense for it to be connected in 3 different pins for just one set of data, does the cam data get sent to a separate pin?

The sensor G40 needs a power supply and a ground for it to be able to give an output signal so it needs 3 wires

The ground for the sensor in the distributor is connected to other component grounds in the wiring loom and goes back to pin 20 of the ECU,  The power for the sensor is from the ECU pin 8 to pin 3 on the sensor and the signal/data is from pin 2 of the sensor going to ECU pin 13

Ahhh I see, so there's no specific pin for the rev counter then?

Cheers!

Thanks for all your help.

According to the pin out listing for the speedo unit there is no rev counter input ?

Ok by backwards following this http://www.xjamiex.com/mk2resource/electrical/CE2.html the rev counter output from the ECU is on pin 9 Green/Blue wire Strange that the pinout for the speedo unit makes no mention of the rev counter ??

there is a rev counter input but it wasn't stated in any wirings hahah, i think it's because most 1.4's don't come with a rev counter from factory (but they have a digital one in the debug menu)

cheers!
