Mk2 breadvan 1994 engine running flat

Featured Replies

Hi,  I'm back again searching for help and advice.  You've been really helpful previously and I'm very grateful for that.  Maybe you could help again.  When I'm driving the car it will suddenly and briefly lose power,  it lasts for a second or two and then jerks into life and suddenly accelerates. Occasionally it'll stall at a junction too. It's recently become damp weather where I live so I sprayed all electrics I could find with gt85 and for about 10 minutes I thought I'd fixed it but it's back.  It's not just a little frustrating but I'm concerned it could potentially be dangerous if I have to pull across traffic and it happens.  Any help or guidance will be gladly accepted.

The hall sensor / sender is the electronic part of the distributor - it senses the rotational position of the distributor as the engine runs, informing the ECU and coil when to spark etc. Very sudden loss of power (i.e. totally disappears to another dimension for a fraction of a second) is one of the symptoms of a failing / dirty hall sender.

i had similar symptoms to you a while back and a change of the fuel filter seemed to clear it. My guess is there was a bit of crud that occasionally formed a constriction.

Anything really sudden and intermittent is usually electronic/electrical related
