Hoping this is the correct place to post this.

 

I'm planning a trip through France, The Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium later this year in my 1998 1.0L (AER) 6N Polo. I know that (at least) France and Germany require emissions stickers based on Euro Engine Class. The V5C lists no Euro class for the vehicle, so I'd think that it doesn't meet any Euro class. Except that a few online checks I've done list it as Euro 2, and it seems as though, being a 1998 car, it should be Euro 2. Does anyone know for sure?

Yeah, based on it's age I'd expected Euro 2.

 

I only intend to drive into Koln, Wolfsburg, and Hamburg in Germany. Hamburg seems only to restrict diesel cars. Koln has some restrictions but so long as mine is at least euro 1 compliant it should be fine - just need to apply for the sticker. Wolfsburg appears to have no restrictions.

 

In Belgium only Antwerp, Ghent, and Brussels have restrictions - I don't intend on travelling to any of these, so again, I should be fine. 

 

In France I don't intend to stop in any cities so whilst I do need a sticker I doubt I will encounter any restrictions.

 

I intend to stop in Amsterdam but haven't yet looked into their crit'air / umweltplakette equivalent.

 

Once I know for sure I'll update the post in case someone in the future finds it useful.

TUV SUD confirmed that the car met the Euro 2 emission standard.

 

The car was issued with a green umweltplakette.
