Hello guys!

I've a beautiful Polo 6N 1.4 petrol (44kw)(200.000KM) year 1998 that will refuse to start and my partner will send it to the scrapyard if I don't fix it!

It's a long story but I'll try to make a summary.

First of all, it all starts this fall, the car suddenly stops and impossible to start. The car cranked up but no starts happens!
After resting it for two days it decided to work again, for about 1 whole month, and then again the same problem!

Problem solved in the same way.

BUT, 3 weeks ago, it decides to stop definitely.

Now, I've literally crawled any kind of forum 3d but can't really found what the problem is!

There's no SPARK, no FUEL (when cranking up).

After cranking for some time, an oil red light came up and it also beep loudly.

Here's what I've done to this point:
1. Checked if sparks happens -> NO SPARK! Changed the ignition coil with a new one, NOT SOLVED
2. Changed the entire distributor (dizzy) for a new one, NOT SOLVED
3. Checked and tested the FUEL PUMP and the RELAY: they're good but the relay works only when I turn on the dashboard, but it's not working when I try to crank the motor
4. Checked and tested each and every fuse: all fuse where good!

At this point I really don't know what to do next, I'm going crazy!
Ah, I've checked also if some DTC where stored in the ecu by using an ELM327 and the CarScanner APP, but no error where found.

If you can help me resolve this issue I'll be very happy to save this beautiful car!!

Have you got 12v to the coil?

 

My first thought would be it's immobilised, or there's a fault in the clocks. Could you try testing the key reads with something a tester coil like this?

I looked for the object you suggested but it wouldn't arrive before the end of April here in Italy.
 

I was also thinking that it could be an immobilizer problem, but are these really the symptoms?

That is, if the immobilizer becomes faulty will it stop my car while it is running?
It could be the key which, perhaps following various falls, has become defective, or rather has the chip inside broken?
 

Also, is there a way to test this with a multimeter or something similar?

Ok there are some news!

After some checkings, I noticed that the distributor was not spinning, disassembled and found out that the plastic pin in the dizzy were totally mangled. Rebuilded and now the distributor works (at least, the HALL SENSOR is working)! Sort of.

The fuel pump relay now is working and when I cranked the engine it became solid and the fuel were correctly delivered, BUT no sparks were found!

So, luckily, is not the immobilizer, but what can be? Which check can I do further?

Another SUPER NEWS!!!

Somehow I was able to start the engine! Probabily, the cilinder heads where flooded by petrol, so I let them evaporate and now the engine is finally starting.

BUT not without issues! The start is very very rough and without giving gas I wasnt able to start it.
Also it cant sustain idle and it's very very smoky. 

I think that we're going very far toward the resolution of the issue, what can I do now?

And... I finally found why the car has rough idle, it's because I'm blind and I swapped cylinder 3 with 4!

Now the car starts flawlessly and it finally works!!

So, in the end, was the distributor be the final evil issue? Is there a method which can let me assure that the old distributor is not working correctly?
