Hi! I am looking for an early mk2 fuel tank for an 83 breadvan. 

 

Mine needs either repairing or replacing and as I don't have the means to repair myself - it becomes uneconomical unless I can find a replacement. 

 

Hoping someone has one I can purchase please!

Have you considered an epoxy repair?

If certain only filler neck leak... there's a Gates hose I've used for 4+ years

(on a replacement 42l tank that involved handbrake cable change).

Is this by adapting the handbrake .... ? How much work is needed for this .... ?

Might be an easier way, but I removed the below rear seat pulley wheel for nearside cable, made custom handbrake cables (shortened Scirocco cable outers, brazed on new ferrules) and changed to a Golf mk3 handbrake with a new mount (had to order via a mate at a VW dealers) and Mk2 Golf guide tubes for the cables, POR15 coated the outside of the tank before fitting. Filler neck still rusted - probably scratched while fitting.

 

A mk2f rear axle or just mk2f axle mounted cable splitter and cables probably much simpler than that, especially if shocks /springs already due for replacing.

 

I didn't want to do that simpler way, as my Polo SP rear beam has built-in anti roll tube (A).

 

This is the mk2f compensator (8) and new brake cables you would need to fit to existing axle.

New handbrake too?

 

I think original clamp and clip 5,7 and 9 are vital for holding cables. 

But 12,13 and14 could be improvised.

can you just weld a tube to a rear subframe that doesn't have a rear anti rolbar?

It's increasing torsional rigidity, so I don't see why not. But an MOT tester may object to welded "repairs" to a highly stressed component

that is in any way corroded.

The tube passes through the trailing arms, so you would need to be supremely confident in making the holes and welding thick tube to survive the bending forces.

Though I have wondered if a rear sway bar with appropriate track could be bolted on, something like a Whiteline BJR01Z, with mounts attached to a plate in boot floor.
