my recently acquired '92 Polo coupé was a 1.0 but had a 1300 engine fitted previously, to the original 4-speed gearbox. With the car was a 5-speed 085 box which I would like to fit. It looks OK, everything rotates properly, the inspection panel reveals clean insides, and the casting codes are SEAT 085 301 103C with a further 085 301 107A under the bellhousing, and a stamp on the top of the bellhousing which reads 48 CEE 29013 379041.

 

Does anyone know what this box is from and if it can be fitted to the 1300 injection engine?

 

Also, I'm guessing that if it fits the gear-lever linkage will need to be modified too. I did this a few years ago on my '79 Golf 1.5D to which I fitted a Golf Mk2 box, and copied the shape of the lever from my '81 1800 cabriolet which is already a 5-speed.

 

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

085 301 107A is the bellhousing/casing

Hopefully it is CEE code. And ratios look good to me for 1300.

 

Rod change linkage should be the same as 4 speed, might need to cut some plastic around the gear lever base top right.

 

The 5 speed ARB has extra offset cutout bends for the 085 box, which might be standard at that year. If you have a straight 4 speed ARB it'll fit upside down but bash the end casing until it leaks.
