Hi,  new to the world of Mk2's, just bought a great little 89 Coupe but need some help with a few issues please.

 

The fuel gauge is not working, checked the sender and it seems ok but only gets 2.2 volts, is this right?  Also any tips on what might be wrong and where to start looking?

If you’ve found the sender in the tank under the rear seat, then connect the two wires in the plug together with an opened out paper clip and switch on the ignition. If you get a full deflection on the gauge then the sender is at fault, if not then the problem is probably in the 12v supply to it,the earth connection or the  gauge itself. Does your Temperature gauge work ok as I think they share a voltage stabiliser?

 

I see you say there is only 2v, is  that by connecting to the two wires in the sender plug?  One wire is violet/black(12v + feed)  and the other one brown(earth 12v neg)
 

The diagram attached is from my Haynes Manual for 1985 on models.  G is the sender, G1 the guage, the 11 circled is the earthing wire under seat(I’m not quite sure where that goes to though).The T numbers are the connectors. T12/7 is a 12 pin connector behind dash panel(pin 7)  and T14/3 is pin 3 of 14 pin connector on dash panel insert.

I'm having problems with intermittent poor/absent readings on my fuel and temp gauges; it's a Mk2F coupe GT. It's almost certainly the voltage stabiliser, so where can i find this thing and can someone describe a basic test procedure? I have a multimeter and have electrical competency. Cheers.
