Hi all. I'm currently stripping my car to get it up on a rotisserie and I'm in the process of getting the wiring loom out. I've got the wiring out of the tailgate (and tied on and left string through to pull it back through again)but it's in a sorry state. The wrapping/insulation tape had perished from the wires from the wiper motor all the way to the tailgate grommet, all that's left is the sort of string webbing and sticky bobbly residue of the tape. The wires themselves all look ok although there is a fault somewhere as I've never had a working rear wiper in about 10 years of owning the car. I figure I'll just check/fix that when I get the car put back together as I've already got the engine out and the wiring out as far as the bulkhead in the engine bay. Problem now is I'm wondering how to get the wiring from the tailgate out through the c pillar. I figure the easiest way would be just to take the connectors off label them up and just pull the wires through the grommet and out of the bottom of the c pillar by the rear taillight cluster then reattach the connectors. Is that the best way to go or is there a better way? 

For your non-working wiper, it’s probably a broken wire in the loom where it passes through from the tailgate to the body. My MK2 has broken a few over the years all around the flexible grommet. 

Nice one 👍 I decided to cut the wires at just near the passenger side rear light cluster as it goes up through the c pillar. I'll check them all when I rejoin them. Cheers
