Hello, I've been wanting to manual swap my Automatic mk3 6n Polo for a while now. I have it for a year now, and I have 115,480 km on the clock, without repair history, and with a pretty annoying, yet so far harmless gearbox issue ever since i've got it. Every time the transmission shifts from first gear to second gear, the whole car jumps. Even in third gear (when it's really cold). I guess it has something to do with the transmission slipping or something. And also if I don't warm the car up it gets worse, and then gets a little better when getting the engine up to temp or just by driving for a while.
Now, I understand that it's a common issue with that generation of transmissions, as a friend of mine told me he had a manual 1.6 mk3 which did that too.

Anyway, I've been wanting to manual swap it ever since i've got it, and I found 2 manual transmissions for sale in my country. One from a 1.4 16v and another from a mk3 with an AEX engine.

I wanted to verify if a AEX nor a 1.4 16v transmission and it's ancillaries would fit the APQ? Also how would the gear ratios behave? Taking into account that both engines are 60 HP and are pretty similar nonetheless.

Also is it the right move for this car? Making it a little more efficient and fun to daily drive, for me at least. And will it ensure the problem will be gone forever, meanwhile maintaining the car well?

I thank anyone who is willing to help me with this question, given it's a tricky one.

Since a gearbox code ERD is 085 style (trusting the internet on that)...

the one from AEX (085 style) should have the same bolt pattern and drive shaft to crank and the ratios should be fine for 1.4 60hp APQ.

I think you can reuse flywheel with gear ring and starter motor too.

Change the bushing for starter motor. Change the selector shaft seal.

Don't forget to also obtain

clutch kit

gear lever and rod with its selector joint

replacement pedal box with a clutch

clutch cable

If it is a cable change box...

cable mount and end adjusters

matching cable gear lever

Speedo drive cable I imagine is the same part.
