Wiring diagrams please!

Hi all

Does anyone have any links to wiring diagrams for a 2002 9N?  Torrents or online sources would be fine.  Sadly I'm going to have to get pretty intimate with the electrics on this car :-(

Not sure where to find free downloads, but erWin VW can be used to download it (and much else) for under a tenner for an hour's 'flat rate' access. 

Let me know if you plan to try this, I can offer some more detailed guidance to save wasting time/money.

The indicator wiring is pretty simple though, each side has common wire colour to all three bulbs, front, side and rear, each fed from the onboard supply control unit above the accelerator pedal on RHD cars.

Right side of car has black/green feed wires all paralleled off pin 14 of the 16 way connector labelled XS6; left side has black/white feed wires all originating at pin 16 of same connector. You already know that fuse 48, rated 15 Amps supplies the chip within the unit that drives all of them.

This is useful!  Does that onboard supply control unit power other things, like rear window heater and have a relay on or associated with it, that could be blowing my indicator fuses?

It does; many things. Horn, HRW, courtesy light, wipers, and a bunch of other stuff.

 

It has a number of relays inside including one for the rear screen heater, but they are all soldered to the circuitboard. Replaceable, but not as simply as with pluggable ones.

 

The indicators however, are solid state, powered from a single surface-mount power FET chip.  Most likely there is a short outside this box, in one of the bulb holders or wiring connectors to them, and most likely water-related, I'd say.

 

Have you examined the fuse for the HRW yet? Mine was half-melted when I last looked at it a few years back, and I note that the wiring diagrams upped the value from 20 Amps to 30 Amps at some point in production.

Yes, changed the HRW fuse, no difference.  It's on though, when I switch it on, it's nice and bright, doesn't get hot and after about a minute, the switch starts flashing, between bright and dim.  Never seen anything like it before and I'm old!  Given that the blower on blows on 4 and nothing below that, plus the indicators blowing the fuse, after 3 or 4 operations, I was hoping for it to be something like the x control relay (think it's called something like that), but the fuse blowing thing on the indicators, probably means more than one issue, with a short favourite for the indicators.  Think I may have bought a pup.  Appreciate the help though!

Check for corrosion where the wiring connects to the printed element on the screen.
