Mark 2 86C with 1043cc HZ1 engine 1992

Featured Replies

Hi, New member here, I have been helping a friend with his very cherished car, have been able to sort quite a few items, and changed, carburettor mount, and vacuum capsule on the  Bosch distributor, oil pressure switch leaking and fuel pump leaking.

I need some help with where the vacuum lines go on the back of the Pierburg 1B carburettor, one goes to the distributor and the other to the hot air valve on the intake pipe, but not sure which pipe goes to which connection on the carb.

Is there somewhere I could download hopefully free, a service manual and a parts list, which would help me a lot in keeping this super little car running at its best.

Thanks and regards  John

Lots of views, but unfortunately no answers to my questions, can any help please, or point me in the right direction please.

John

It shouldn't matter because they are both vacuums.

Ruddies Berlin were Pierburg agents for 40+ years.Website was alive when I last looked but you need German for some of the documents.

Dizzy advance vacuum is from above throttle plate.

Thermo valve vacuum is from below throttle plate so permanent vac source.

Sorry but permanent vac to a distributor gives you too much advance at half throttle, pinking at high load and worse economy.

Thank your for the latest info, I will follow it up, very interesting.

The 2 vacuum connections at the base and rear of the carburettor, I can only get vacuum from one of them, the r/h one looking forwards, nothing from the other, So I presume I have open this and find out why i'm not getting vacuum there.

Thanks  John

The pipes cross over, so the one from the warm air flap goes to the one closest to the distributor end of the engine and vice versa.

No idea why, it shouldn't, but in my experience, it makes a difference.

I suppose someone could have used sealant rather than fitting dry, or vacuum is leaking.

The base gasket is common fail point.

Engine has suction of 1 to 50 vacuum cleaners as pistons descend with open inlet valves.

If you open the throttle a tad (1/8" or less)

does that port give vacuum?

Does the Weber TLA have different vac port orientations than Pierburg 1B?

I had a pierburg on my 1043cc hz before swapping it out.

To be sure I remembered how to reconnect the various vacuum pipes and electrical valves - I made a post on this forum recording it all.

Whilst I can still see my old account "kbs" and I can see a post count, I cannot see any of my old posts.

Maybe a moderator could restore my original posts?
