Can anyone help me understand what I've done wrong here. 

 

I have a VW Polo 1.2 S 5d 2007 (57 plate) face lift model.

Since I bought the car less than 6 months ago I've discovered there's a problem with the windows not working. I did a little research and found I'd need to take the offending drivers side window motor unit off and get this repaired. I'm doing this with Pete1's service. 

 

So I've gone to take the door card off, but when doing so, I didn't unhook the door latch cable, I left it on whilst I held up the door card with most of the wiring still attached, whilst I unscrewed the window motor (main thing I wanted to do), then put the door card back on. But the door latch hook got really yanked around whilst I was doing this I didn't realize until afterwards. I would have taken this hook off if I could've but it was so difficult to take off, couldn't get to it, so I decided to just leave it on whilst I took the window motor unit off, because it just didn't seem worth wasting time trying to get it off when it was going to be far easier and quicker to just leave it attached and just take off the window motor unit. 

 

When I put the door card back on, I went to close the door but it wouldn't close, it just bounced off, so I tried harder to shut the door, and thank heavens it finally did shut. I thought that was the end of it. But then I realized I've messed up, because now I've realized the door will NOT open at all. It will not open from neither the inside or the outside. I've tried this fix but it did not work, it still will not open. What have I done wrong? Where have I gone wrong here? Please help. I'm not even sure if a mechanic will be able to fix this. 

 

There doesn't seem to be any way of opening the door. I cannot take the door card off from inside the car either because the 3 TX20 screws at the bottom of the door card are hidden away and can't be unscrewed.

I have woken up this morning with an idea.

 

I think the lock pin must not be correctly aligned within the hole at the top of the door card.

When the card was refitted, the lock must have been locked by this pin being pushed down, hence the 'bounce' when you first shut the door after the work.

Despite opening the lock by manual levering of the lock parts on rear edge of the door,  the pin was still being pushed downward enough to re-lock the door once shut.

 

Can you see the pin looking down into the hole?
