Polo 6N2 Crank position sensor - Hall Effect Or VR Sensor

Hi,

Im trying to determine wheter the Polo 6N2's use a hall effect or VR crank position sensor.

I ask because Im currently in the process of wiring up my microsquirt ECU and the type of sensor determines how it needs wiring.

Thanks for any info.

I can't give a definitive answer but may be able to help you along the way.

Back when these things were made, hall effect sensors usually had three connections. For the last 10 years, there have been 2 connection Hall effect sensors as well 😀

Generally speaking, if you can find a dc voltage at the sensor when the engine is NOT running- it's a hall effect.

If some one who has access to auto data could share a waveform drawing, we can easily see which type it is. Hall effect is like an older coil sensor, with a schmitt trigger on the output. Therefore, the hall effect has a square wave with just one amplitude (just the frequency varies) and the older plain coil sensor has varying amplitude with spike (NOT square) waveforms.

Do let us know but as an old f@#£ who worked with sensor and software manufacturers for many years - I'd would NOT expect a hall effect sensor for your crank position.

Have fun, and what did you use for a cam sensor? Position or phase? Phase is definitely a job for a halleffect 😉
