Hi All – could I please ask for any help and advice?

 

I’ve got a 2001 Polo 1.4 S and I’ve got a problem that I’m struggling to solve.

 

So, the EPC light is illuminated on the dashboard; I had a garage do some checks and the initial diagnosis was a problem with the (original) MAP sensor; the garage changed that and reset the code to get rid of the light on the dashboard.  Within hours the light came back on so took it back into the garage – they say that this is probably caused by the manifold pressure sensor but they couldn’t find out why. 

 

In the last week or so, while driving, the problem has deteriorated.  I can be driving along and press the accelerator only for the engine to seem to falter – almost it's lost power completely. If I then take my foot off the accelerator and put my foot down again the power comes back in – it doesn’t feel dangerous, just annoying.

 

Can anyone suggest what this issue might be and how to correct it…??

I'm assuming you've checked other known problem sensors? Coolant temp, O2 etc. If it's on a MAP i'm assuming it doesn't have a MAF? If you're confident the problem is related to the MAP then i'd be looking for blockages in tappings and bleed pipes, i'm not familiar with the sensor fitment of your car so can't be any more specific.
