Polo breadvan battery.

Featured Replies

So I know the mk2 breadvan correct battery is an 063.

Dimensions

175 (w) x 175 (h) x 210 (l) mm

I can categorically state that a type 096 will not fit, unless there's no bonnet hinge, and perhaps no bonnet as the battery tray space is not flat, limiting battery height towards centre of car.

(Had a good charged 096 handy)

But I think an 075 might just squeeze in.

An 075 fits in the tray and bonnet will close with cables attached to terminals.

Specifically a Yuasa 3000 YBX3075, which is sealed maintenance free model.

60Ah capacity and 550 cold cranking amps.

Weighs 14.4kg, so more than 063

eg Bosch S5001 which is 13kg.

But I need to check if the rain tray feeds water onto the +ve battery terminal.

It's sealed battery so it won't get diluted electrolyte, the bain of Porsche 914 ownership.

The scuttle tray stops any rain water from dripping on the +ve terminal of the wider 075. It has a lip at the edge and a gutter channel in the plastic.

And the 075 managed multiple failed start attempts in damp weather. My Dellortos don't have a choke, they have an auxiliary cold start circuit that can be set so rich it will foul the sparkplugs with soot, so you can have a fires then dies game of chance (in warm weather it'll start and idle using the pump jets).

I suspect refitting the radio on standby killed the previous Bosch S3 after 7+? years.

Going to fit a Bluetooth battery monitor.

And maybe an LED interior light.
