Im new to Polo ownership. I have a 2019 1.0SE.

There is a water leak , the garage says it is the water pump .. quote £700 to repair (is this reasonable ?)

I can see a slight leak from the area shown in the photo (red arrow) .. im not sure what the circular black casing is , but looks to be coming from a joint there ? Any thoughts/advise welcome.

NB is the water pump the one at the bottom of the engine bay driven by the timing belt ? (Yellow arrow in 2nd picture)- I cant see any obvious leak there ?

Further question .. I'm now being told to change the timing belt .. taking total cost to £980 ?

My understanding is the pump is not driven from the timing belt (on different sides of the engine), but has its own belt, as per diagrams below, so not sure why the timing belt needs changing ?

I'm far from an expert on the newer engines, but what you're saying looks and sounds more plausible than what they're saying. Can you see any signs of a leak with the engine running? Do you know the engine code (normally 3 or 4 letters and numbers, possibly on a label on the timing belt cover)?

Just seen this on instagram and it shows that the waterpump is driven by the camshaft but that replacing it doesn’t require the full cambelt to be replaced
