I’ve always been the type of person who, as soon as any warning light comes on in the dashboard, immediately takes my 2020 Polo to a repair shop. But last week, an “Engine Malfunction” warning appeared on the dashboard, and the nearest repair shop charges 90 euros just to connect a diagnostic tool. I thought that was way too expensive.

A user on the forum suggested I try OBDocker. I was pretty skeptical at first, but I ended up downloading the app and connecting the adapter. In less than two minutes, it detected a problem with the oxygen sensor and displayed the exact trouble code. I spent 35 euros to replace the part, and the warning disappeared immediately.

The best part is that the annual plan comes with a 7-day free trial. If you don’t like it, just cancel your subscription before the trial ends, and you won’t be charged a thing.

Has anyone else encountered a similar situation? How do you all handle these warning lights on the dashboard?

I wouldn't bother with any of the subscription-based scanners (that being most of the ones that work through your phone) they all just get more and more expensive as time goes by, and keep the more advanced features behind a paywall.

If you just want basic engine fault codes read - there's plenty of cheap handheld scanners out there for <£100 that will do the job without being a constant leach on your wallet.

If you want something a bit better, most of the Chinese tablet-based scanners are a copy of a Launch. I use a TopDon, it's genuinely a decent bit of kit, although some of the Engrish can take a bit of working out (eg, it calls brake pads "brake blocks", like on a pedal bike).

Where can I download Bluetooth adapter, wheel ramps and an O2 sensor socket?

I'd be asking why the O2 sensor died so young on a VW.

I assume far below 100,000 miles for typical 6 year old Polo.

Definitely, yes, but I'm not a mod any more, so I'll just leave it at explaining a better option than the product in the spam.
