Yeah, don't get one of the ebay specials... Unless you want to fuck your cat. A K&N panel filter might give you 1 bhp. Slightly sportier exhaust note if you're lucky and that's about it. And yeah, I got a shock when I pulled up against my mates 1.2 55bhp 9n and thrashed him all the way to, er, the legal limit officer. Slow as a bus.

Best thing to do is work out your budget. If your tuning budget is say, £1500 or something, look for another engine. If it's £500 then you'll get a full system and a remap for that. Can you get 3 branch manifolds for this engine?

anyone know what the bhp is for the 1.4 16v 9n? i think I've seen it sumwhere at around 85 but my buddy says its bout 95.

any ideas?

either 75 or 100 are the options as far as I'm aware, being a sport i should think its 100bhp.

and whoever said 117mph must have had a bloody big hill, must have been near the limiter, i got 111mph on a hill and it was going 5.5k and it limits at 6!

I've got a mk6 9n 1.4S 16V 80Bhp. Does anyone know how i can get it to go a little faster, dont mind spending up to a grand.

All replys will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Forever

personally i think you guys should just spend the money on making it look nice and handle well,

you will have to spend at least 5-6k on it to get it anywhere near quick enough in a straight line. so save you money till you can afford to buy/insure a quick car as standard.

or

some lateral thinking for you: make it an awesome handling, well stopping car and it will be much 'quicker' than alot of similair cars because you can carry your speed through corners and brake much later.

lets face it straightline speed is boring!!

9n 1.4 16v only came in 75bhp..... and a very boring 75bhp

Hey has any one else seen these ELETRIC SUPERCHARGERS on ebay, they are a universal fit the have a small electric fan in the air intake of the fillter, they add 20 bhp, for only £139, wondered if they are any good?

Weyyy!!!

I've had 117 out of mine as well!!!!

I think I had about 100 more RPM before the rev limiter kicked in.

I was scared of holding it for too long though, in case a piston flew through the case!!!

Anyone beat the record of 117? I think that's the maximum the ECU will let you do...

I got 124mph out of my 52 reg 1.4s 16v 75ps!!!!! No Tuning!!!!

Was ragging it down the M5 with my mate neck and neck in his lupo 1.4tdi, we were doing 122-124mph for about 2 mins before i let off!!!

BEAT THAT!!!

I'm guessing you have a seriously over-reading speedo then

  • 4 weeks later...

well ok I said i was doing 117, I've done it again and it just won't go past that!!!! it will not budge to 118!!!!! lol

Anyways, once i raced my mate in his clio 16v. He was alone in the car. I had a "big" friend of mine in my car...

I was doing 100MPH in my little 6v, whilst the 16v couldn't get past!!! I was quite impressed with my little car at that point!!

Only thing is, he later said to me he was doing 115 next to me!! Neck - neck, me 100, him 115...

So technically, If my speedo was under-reading, I could add 15MPH to my 117, giving me a total of 132MPH from my 1.2 6v!!!

Hhmm... i think the clio was over reading...

hi to all

long time reader first time poster !

I've been thinking about getting an induction kit and system for my mk 7 1.2 64ps 12v but the increase in power ent cost effective so I'm just gonna spend it on smartening it up ! Save up until i can afford the insurance on a gti !

No, the Clio was just fucked.

hi guys

I'm new to this forum, i got a Polo 1.2 S 65BHP in 2006 and was searching for so long for that little bit more performance like you guys.

my verdict? a K&N induction kit with a remap is probably the best option for a budget hahaa, http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/ai_faq.asp#21 they do remap for around 150-200

I am disappointed on what limited things i can do for my polo though, i.e. the speedos really should have some chrome detailing and yet i cant find any online > < anyone got any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

This thread is f-ing dire!

thinking exactly the same cos basically the engines need binning and something tasty plonking in end of. why in gods name did vw stick a 55/65 bhp engine in a car that weighs nearly as much as a tank when the cars they were building a decade before hand had the same output? surely to lumber the increased weight of a car that has increased in size due to regs needs a bigger engine? doesn't make sense to me...personally i wouldnt even buy a good set of plugs for these engines or change the oil for that matter. save your cash and but something better in :lol: .

Hi:

i have a 53 reg polo sport with 100BHP and also what to make it look and sound awesome. I'm looking into the JE design body kits est. There are a few lookies on ebay such as chrome lining the speedos and other subtle mobs. I'm stuck on the induction kits tho as I'm sure your all aware there is a massive great cover over the engine so how does the induction kit fit??? I'm prob just being a newby but rather ask that mess it up.

ps iv posted a pic of the JE design body kit, let me know what you guys & galls think???post-19909-1221724225.jpg

Remaps offer 5bhp + 5 lb-ft torque for the 1.2.

9n 1.4 16v only came in 75bhp..... and a very boring 75bhp

No...they came with 80bhp or 105bhp...

6N2 came with 75bhp or 100bhp...it's a later car which was heavier so they decided to give the engine a little remap.

A Lupo 1.4 16v 75bhp saw 90bhp with a panel filter and a remap from Awesome Tuning.

Polo 9N 1.2 6v = 55bhp

Polo 9N 1.2 12v = 65bhp

Polo mk7 1.2 6v = 60bhp

Polo mk7 1.2 12v = 70bhp

As far as I've been told the only difference between the mk6 & mk7 engines is a remap down to the fact they've had the engine for 4 years and thus it deserved a remap in time for the new mk7.

So would that mean that fitting the ECU off a much newer model onto a 2002-05 1.2 polo would increase the bhp a tad?

m8, i have the same car, as in the 55bhp one, and all i put in was a K&N, didnt do anything for bhp, maybe a slight increase in torque, but it sounds like a GT m8, let me know if you find any chips or anything.

Hey man, your K&N induction kit, how did you fit it in? to my knowledge you have to sacrifice the engine cover because thats the whole of the airbox? I tried to get one fitted in but the guy told me about the engine cover being off leaving the engine exposed which doesnt sound nice haha maybe you've done it another way?

Well to be honest mate, you need to take the engine cover off to get an induction kit on it, the only way of getting an upfraded filter is by fitting a K&N panel filter.

I took my engine cover off, as the two plastic mounts snapped off, and the rubber bungs at the bak wore away, so asically the whole thing was bouncing about on top of th engine... Which caused me 3 coil pack failures in a year!!!!!Been a whol year since the last coil pack went now... the cover actually bounces about on top of the coil packs, so take it off, and you are problem free!

icic! I'll probably try it once my warranty runs out haha! Was thinking about trimming the air box off the cover so the kit can fit in whilst also having the cover on top since a cover only costs around 30 quid. Might do that and if I need to take the car to do anything i swap the cover back on haha!!
