is there really a pannel filter for a 1.2 6v? i've looked on the k&n website and all they do is the 57i induction kit. and if so where does the pannel go as when you look under the bonnet there is no normal air box like in many other cars

Well mate the air filter is situated inside the air box (big fat plastic lump sitting on top of the engine).. This box just pulls off (with a bit of effort hehe) and the screws on the underside need to come off to get to the filter.

I do recommend an induction kit, as the air filter box often comes loose, and then bounes up and down nicely on the coil packs at the front of the engine, then you end up with the famous coil pack breakage issue!! I have had my polo for over 2 years now.. in the first year, all 3 coils went, then november 2007 I took the air box off, and no coil breakages as yet!! (the air box hits the coil packs, breaks the insulation on them and that causes it to let the spark out of the coil pack just below the head.. and no spark at the plug!!

Good luck dude if you need any tips get in touch..

hey man! did you cover your engine with another plate or anything? I wanted to fit the induction kit in but then I wont have the engine cover and reveals all those parts of engine, and weirdly my engine bay gets REALLLYYY dirty lol, whatve you done to tackle this problem?

polo 1.2 12v 64bhp (65ps) can be remapped to 70bhp + 10nm torque

That's a 10% gain in bhp and a 5% gain in torque.

Not really worth commenting on but a 10% gain for such a small engine is decent.

The main improvements would be a smoother ride, the removal of flatspots, less throttle work required to get up to speed, less throttle work to hold at a steady speed when going uphill and less throttle work when carrying passengers.

And if your very lucky (being that a 3 pot weighs less than a 4 pot) being that a 4 pot has air con and gadgets where as the 1.2E doesn't you might skim the power to weight ratio of a Polo 1.4 75bhp!

Hmm now my polo really doesnt like accelerating at the mo. She hardly reaches 70mph easily! Sayin that, after 95,000 miles is full throttle motorway (Ahem.. Airfield, Officer!!) action she's getting a bit tired now! Other signs include using half a litre of oil over the last 2 weeks :s

Oh well, time for that engine transplant! :D

It's not running right then. I've used my 1.2 12v 65PS every day or two for the last 3 months and it hasn't consumed a drop of oil.

It can reach 100mph on half throttle although it does get there in it's own time and holds the speed very well.

I've generally found that it is a revvy engine and if you aren't keeping the rev range between 3-4k rpm you aren't going to be getting anywhere quickly at all.

Try these gears at these speeds once you get your car looked at...

1st gear - 0/15mph (0-4krpm)

2nd gear - 15/30mph (2.5/4krpm)

3rd gear - 30/50mph (3-4krpm)

4th gear - 50/70mph (3-4krpm)

5th gear - 70mph+ (3-4krpm)

Don't use more than half throttle otherwise you'll kill your fuel economy, the revs will get there in its own time.

Every single review has rated the 1.2 12v as a more 'lively unit' compared to the 1.4 which felt sluggish.

I'll bet after a conversion next year too. :D

Erm no offense buddy but I do kinda know how to drive this engine ;) , I've done over 50K driving it!

In fact so well that I've impressed a racing driver mate of mine

Your being the 12V I believe has a bit more torque, mines the 6v, she runs best between 3K and 4.75K RPM, altho out in the open, 4500K bring me to about 95MPH where she has a big ol' flat spot, but once gone past to about 98MPH she pulls and carries on till bout 110 quite easily! 117 tho and she's bouncing off the rev limiter :s

The engine IS very tired, still going strong, but has an issue with the throttle module I think.

And yes, the abuse has taken its toll on the top end, worn cam lobes and piston rings have caused it to run lumpy and burn oil.

As I said, the more thrashing, the better, coz as soon as (if!!) it goes pop, engine trnasplant :D

Strip out everything and put in an alumimium seat!! No door cards all speakers stereo, carpet. Lighter the better, and for power wise de cat stainless exhaust with a stainless maifold, but its pointless on the 1.2's

9n 1.4 16v only came in 75bhp..... and a very boring 75bhp

1.4 16v Sport is 100bhp. 1.4 16v S is different so that might be 75bhp but I'm not sure, all i know mines 100bhp. Theres not alot that can be done to these so I've heard?

Just a little update, My little 1.2 6v gave up, lost 3/4 of the compression on two cylinders, sticky valves caused it, burned the exhaust valves out so technically ran on one!!! And you could feel it getting woooorse and woooorse over the months, till the bottom end eventually gave up because of the uneven compressions! Clack clack clack :s

SO. I went ahead and did the engine conversion! Was hard work, took a couple of weeks, but now I'm running a 12 valve engine. No, not the 4-valve-per-cylinder 1.2 engine! Think of something else that has 12 valves! Two valves per cylinder, yes, 6 CYLINDERS :p haha

VR6 9N Polo :D She passed the MOT yesterday, and oh god she's quick!!!!!

Hopefully going to make it to a few shows, so keep your eyes open for a Silver 9n with a rusty bonnet :D

revotechnik have £100 off their remaps, going to get my TDI booked in, bargain!

For you lot trying to get more power from your 3 cylinder engines please just don't bother, it's not worth it.

Those engines are designed purely for economy and as a result are very restrictive and not tuneable.

Buy another car or do an engine conversion. Probably easier and simpler to sell and buy a faster car. Plus in my experience you have to rag those 3 cylinders to get them to go anywhere then this results in pretty poor fuel economy. Tiny engine with no power in a heavy car doesn't work very well. No offence or anything.

i want to face plant the desk when i see these topics..

This thread was dead for almost 18months! Who resurrected it?

And then again 3 months later. Its like the 2nd (and 3rd coming!!)

DIE thread DIE!!!!

Its the new guys!

Weyyy!!!

I've had 117 out of mine as well!!!!

I think I had about 100 more RPM before the rev limiter kicked in.

I was scared of holding it for too long though, in case a piston flew through the case!!!

Anyone beat the record of 117? I think that's the maximum the ECU will let you do...

I got 124mph out of my 52 reg 1.4s 16v 75ps!!!!! No Tuning!!!!

Was ragging it down the M5 with my mate neck and neck in his lupo 1.4tdi, we were doing 122-124mph for about 2 mins before i let off!!!

BEAT THAT!!!

(

I have the same car and thats all i can get out of it! (untill i find a steeper hill i hope)

Had an arguement with some one on her coz he told me my car would only do 11omph max but glad some else has done 120+ in one aswell :)

This is officially the most retarded thread ever. I thought the forum had gotten bad recently but fuck me clearly I was wrong!

Agreed! Altho I did participate in it, I can gladly say I've grown up a lot since then and now prefer tackling 150mph with a VR6 lump in there, not a turdy little 1.2 excuse of an engine
