Registering a German import

Featured Replies

Does anybody know the form needed to do this?

I went to the DVLA site and it said to just contact your local DVLA office - not very helpful...

Just thought someone on here would have had an imoprt at some stage and knows what to do.

Cheers

i believe they may need an SVA check ?

my dads american imported cars did.

I imported my splitty from California - and the DVLA were great - they sent me all the relevant paperwork and booklets. Just give them a ring and I'm sure they'll help you out.............

any car not originally sold in the uk needs a sva check, all the grey imports need to have one, so i would say yes, its just to check that the vehicle is safe to use on uk roads

we had to register our skyline. ring dvla and they'll send you the paper work you need to fill in. send it back and then they'll send you an appointment time for your sva check. once its been sva'd they'll send you a form to fill in with your reg number on,then you'll have to send them a cheque for 1 years tax then you'll get your log book. its a pain in the ass but worth it when your cars on the road :-)

Nooooooo...!!!!

SVA is only applicable to vehicles imported from outside the EU, and only then depending on age..!!

As I said, if you let me know what vehicle it is and what age and mileage it has I can shed more light on this.

For qualification to answer, I imported my own '59 Chevy truck in from the USA and I also worked in a government import and export advice centre for a few years before transferring to Dover doing a similar job.

If it is from Germany, was registered in Germany and is more than six months old and covered more than 6000 miles (or maybe km's - will check) then there is no charge or SVA.

Regards,

Nige.
