Any car over 15 years old should be available on classic policy.

hmmmm, what are the pros vs. cons on a classic policy?

wooooowah!!!

So is a mk2 parade available on classic insurance?? and what is classic insurance, except cheeper?!

Footman James are a well known classic broker, they told me that they don't consider the Polo to be a classic even though Golfs, 205's etc of a similar age can be. They said try again when it reaches 25 years old!

I have another car on a policy with them, with really old cars you can get unlimited mileages but most modern classics can have terms imposed like under 3k miles per year or have to be a second car.

My 83 Coupe (Pre-S) is with Lancaster on a Classic Policy.

Pros: It's cheap. They're fine about shows, even track days. Breakdown cover included. Quite a high ICE-allowance (if that's your thing), I think they gave me two-fifty, which I was upset about, as my radio cost a fiver, then she explained that's two hundred and fifty :).

Cons: Limitted milage (mine's on 4k, but I think they'll go to 8k). No business use, commuting use costs.

My 1978 Derby is insured on a classic policy, also with Lancaster. This is TPFT, 5000 miles a year and costs £180. Give them a ring, they're good.

awwww i got well excited

I reckon ill just stick to the good old "4x the car is worth" insurance. Takes the mick! just cos some young drivers enjoy writin off cars on a weekend I'm gettin conned!!! Tossers!

I'm with HIC, they said that they would have no problem putting bluey onto a classic car policy, even tho polos arn't listed if they see one in good condition then they can do it.

I think you rather than the car needs to be over 25 tho...

you cant use your no claims on a classic car policy, so only really worth it if you have another car but in my case my runabout is so cheap anyway as they mirror my no claims so id be worse off!

I've got bluey on agreed valuation, bit of a hassle filling in the forms every year and have to pay an extra £15.75 but otherwise if anything happened i would only get book price which is Feck all! and not worth the risk as i could never replace bluey :crybaby: some people have been caught out this way on engine conversions as if your log book says 'coupe s' or 'CL' and even tho you have a G40 engine and loads of mods, you would only get the price of a coupe s or a CL model

I have a policy with www.Firebond.co.uk and they will insure anything over 10 years old on a classic car policy and currently have a '96 mk4 polo on there for £124:00 third party f&t as a second car.............give them a try 8-)

when insuring a car you should tell them everything including mods and engine conversions

if you write car off you will loose abit but not much

there is too many people out there doing conversions and not changing the details on the V5 so when they get stopped or crash they loose it.

have always told insurance and DVLA of any conversions i have done

if you dont tell DVLA and you get found out you can get a min of £1000 fine

Think I was 24 when I took the policy out, they never mentioned it.

I seem to remember Lancaster are fairly mod-friendly too.
