1992 Vw Polo GT

Introduction...

Well been looing for something to replace the civic for a while now and this lil baby came up! Being a dub head i found it hard to say no so i went up to northampton last night on the trian to collect!

Plans...

German look, euro styling, decked on small wide rims, bla bla bla etc

Shopping List...

Debadge grill

Low suspension

Late spec rear lights

Clear front lights

Wide rims

Purchased From...

Northampton

Its one of the last of the line (1992) Vw polo gt, 1.3 multipoint injection engine and it goes very well for what it is down to its rollerskate weight! Its in pretty much a1 condtion on the exterior apart from a few small keying marks on the passenger side which i recon will buff out! Interior looks a bit stinky so a good steam clean is in order and the motor that pulls it all has done 104k, recently had a full service but looks pretty clean too! Anyway, pictures speak a thousands words and all that so....

After making my first styling mod i thought id better make it nice and secure, so me and dale cracked on with fitting the alarm. First i needed a donar car with an alarm on:

Ala one Vento

P1012211.JPG

P1012212.JPG

We ripped the alarm out and then Dale got on with stripping and fitting it to the polo as i didnt have a clue, plus, hes qualified, i'm not lol

P1012214.JPG

Even had a little visitor along the way who decided to make a mess of my newely cleaning car and steal my sauasge roll

P1012213.JPG

All finished, cars now alarmed and imobolised! Cheers to Dale for fitting!

Also, fitted the clear fronts, made a nice difference, will post a pic of that up larter and a photoshop of how it shall look in a few weeks!

Ok well today iv been spending again.

Bought my central locking motors as the car obviously didnt have it, couldnt hack that so hopefully this bundle of wires and motors will make sence to Dale who'l be fitting this for me (Salut!)

And a pic to show the clears fitted

I think iv pretty much decided on the ATS Classics so i did a photoshop of how i recont he car should look in a lil while.

Would be well chuffed for it to look like that! Next up, suspension!

Quick update here. Bought and fitted my late spec rear lights today. Nothing ott, just got the smoked section instead or orange!

P1012225.JPG

Just another quick update for today. Dale was free today so he fitted the central locking for me and wired it up to the alarm. It all works nice and dandy, would recomend his services to anyone! So much nicer than having to use the key! I'm sure Dale will prove useful once i get my electric window kit!

Well, well well. When people told me lowering a mk3 polo was hard i laughed at them and told them itd be done in a few hours! I started lowering mine on tuesday morning. Its wednesday night now and iv only managed to do the back! What a nightmare:

Firstly heres a shop comparing the standard with uprated. I went for the fk shock and spring kit, 60 mil 8-)

P1012232.JPG

One out

P1012231.JPG

Job done, driver side rear, took about 15 mins. On to the passenger side, top mount, easy, bottom mount nightmare! The bolt had siezed to the inner of the shock, not coming out, so went to see my dads mate tim, he had a few ideas

P1012237.JPG

This one, inevitably worked, shock came out, with bolt still attached

P1012238.JPG

New shock in place

P1012239.JPG

So thats the rear done. Onto the front, hub came off easy, as did top mount and ARB nut, the bit I'm now having problems with is the track rod end nut. The track rod bolt is spinning aroun with the nut, not a huge problem, i clamped it with some mole grips. Then i ran out of space, nut couldnt go any further up due to the clamp. Dan (oz cardiff) has given me a good idea of how to get around this, so finger crossed il have it done 2moro. Iv got 2moro as a deadline as friday is E38! If its not done, its not going, il be going as a passenger!

More to come soon!

Well, iv given up on the suspension, its beaten me! I tried everything but iv just lost the will power to try anythign else so the cars stays put for e38! I tried what dan said but it wasnt happening and on the passenger side everythign was twice as tight, so plan is to get someone else to do it lol. Fingers crossed on monday! Quick pic i forgot i took on my phone with just the back decked!

deckage.jpg

After 2 weeks of fannying about, buying new tools, buying new track rod ends, then track rods, then cv boots, the polo is finally lowered. Not 100% happy with it yet as iv got the back on the lowest setting. Need to being it up a few notches to match the front then il get some tidy pics

Iv also fitted smoked headlights and indicators. Think they make the front look meaner, took about 2 hours to make and cost about £3!

P1012380.JPG

Didnt go completely to plan first time, i didnt remove the plastic sorounds so when i put them in the oven to loosen the glue it melted, thats the black blob in the picutre lol

P1012378.JPG

Il be getting an exhaust early next week, i was set on a side exit but I'm thinking of just a normal exit fromt he rear now, we shall see next week!

So i got my exhaust yesterday, decided against a side exit in the end, mainly because or clearence issues. As it is now iv had to pop the back up 20mil and thats with the exhaust in a place its suppossed to be so bringing it out the side could only really end in distruction. So Gareth at Welsh Coast Customs made me up a downpipe back system with no centre box (again for clearence issues) and a twin square tailpipe.

P1012400.JPG

P1012401b.jpg

No pics of it being made as i dropped it off and picked it up after work. Big shout out to Birchy for doing the system for me, he did it in his own time on sunday and did it to me with a nice swcc discount.

So whats next then? Well iv got a few interested in the civic, so when that goes it'l pay for wheels, I'm glad i didnt rush out and buy ATS Classics as iv found a fair few others i wouldnt mind having, but we'l get to that bridge when the civic is gone. Other than that i think next will be half colour coded bumpers.

Iv also bought a golf gti air flow metre from ptb. This is a handy mod for poo as its the same AFM as the golf, but with a bigger diametre. Fitted it but had to take it off as it needs to be set up. Sort something for that soon.

Thats all for now folks

More mods today then, first off a simle free one. Found my Union 76 Ball off the Vento and fitted it!

P1012418.JPG

Next i decided to de wiper the rear. I am going to get this done properly in time, but for now, a handy gromit! The exhaust also looks better in these pics!

P1012420.JPG

P1012421.JPG

Finally, managed to set up my golf gti air flow metre. Better acceleration and noise from this! Not bad for £15!

P1012422.JPG

Thats all for now!

WELL nice mate

Can't wait to see it on the 8th!

Really nice i love the progress... hats off to yer. but there is just one thing loose the piperx filter asap?

I had to fit an air filter to get the golf gti air flow metre on.

I had to fit an air filter to get the golf gti air flow metre on.

what you should do keep the piperx clamp, get some 2.5" alliminuim tubing and you will need 2 or 1 silocone joiners, and pipe the filter down thru the existing hole at the bottom to get cold air ! thats how it should be done matey

good luck

Good progress! Arse end deffo needs to be raised up a bit tho.

What wheels you planning to go for? Sorry if you've said but I'm simple and couldn't help but looking at the pretty red paint in the pics and skip all the text :p

Good work tho 8-)

Looks like your missing the door skin/'condom' in one of the pics? It is attached to the door behind the door card.

Mint! Love it mate!
